XYO Network has built a pioneering ecosystem that leverages individual, decentralized nodes to create a sovereign system for data management. It’s based on a Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Network or DePIN, and it promises to revolutionize the way real-world data connects to Web3.
By decentralizing the data management process, and allowing users to fully own and monetize the data they create, XYO says it is enhancing the reliability and security of Web3 data. But how exactly does XYO do this, why is this necessary, and how can it help Web3 to scale? We sat down with XYO’s co-founder Markus Levin to find out.
Q1: XYO has grown significantly since its inception. Can you share XYO’s mission and what sets it apart in the blockchain space?
XYO was built on the idea of empowering individuals and businesses with data sovereignty through decentralized technology. We’re the first pioneer in Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Networks (DePIN), using blockchain to connect real-world data with digital systems. Since launching in 2018, we have grown to become the world’s largest DePIN network, with more than 8 million nodes distributed across the planet
What makes us unique is our focus on trustless, accurate data validation, which we achieve through tools like Proof-of-Location and Proof-of-Origin. We’re not just creating a network but also fostering an ecosystem where data is transparent, secure, and beneficial for all participants.
Q2: Data sovereignty is a recurring theme for XYO. Why is this important, and how does it shape XYO’s approach?
Data sovereignty is about individuals and businesses having control over their data — how it’s used and who benefits from it.
At XYO, we’ve built our ecosystem to ensure users retain ownership and receive fair rewards for their data contributions. By leveraging blockchain’s transparency and immutability, we eliminate middlemen, providing a trustless system where data integrity is paramount. This approach aligns perfectly with our mission of decentralization and empowerment.
Q3: Can you highlight a few use cases where XYO’s technology is making a difference?
Absolutely. Our technology is being used across industries like gaming, where Proof-of-Location enhances virtually any industry requiring real-world data. XYO is uniquely able to provide both transparency and efficiency in a way centralized systems can’t compete with. Some of the most exciting use cases for XYO include A.I., virtually any kind of logistics, or technologies like virtual and augmented reality.
One of the most common uses cases for XYO at present is in the gaming and metaverse industries, where we are able to enhance real-world experiences with Proof-of-Location. In logistics, our verifiable location data helps to bring transparency and improve data validation in terms of tracking products and supplies, while in AI, our community is helping to compile and verify the data needed for training powerful new models, using XYO’s sovereign methodology and opt-in compliance.
Q4: How can I get started and participate in the XYO Network and become a useful member of your community?
The easiest way is to download the COIN app, which is designed to provide a seamless on-ramp for new users wanting to participate in our ecosystem and start generating and owning data.
When you download the COIN app onto your device, you’ll be able to start collecting data for the network and validating it, and for your efforts you’ll earn rewards in the shape of XYO tokens.
For those who want to get more involved, we recently launched xyOS, which is our groundbreaking sovereign data platform that redefines how people can interact with the digital world. We’re on the cusp of a new era in the digital world, and xyOS gives you unprecedented control and autonomy in the way you can access it. Essentially, what it is is an operating system that makes it simple for anyone to run an XYPO node through a user-friendly graphical interface. Users can access the XYO Platform, Protocol and Network without needing any specialist blockchain skills, ensuring that everyone can play a part in our project.
Really, its launch is a key milestone in our mission to create a more decentralized and sovereign internet, giving users the tools they need to reclaim ownership of their online interactions. It streamlines access to our core dApps, provides tools for dApp developers looking to leverage sovereign data, and introduces users to xyoNS, our novel domain name system, through which anyone can create their own “display-friendly” name instead of using a jumbled hash or crypto address.
Soon, we’ll also be launching our mini-game Daily Payload, which will provide users with daily challenges, rewards, badges and a chance to fight to the top of the leaderboard and earn recognition in our community.
Q5: What’s coming next for XYO and its community in 2025? Is there anything to look forward to?
I think 2025 is shaping up to be another groundbreaking year. We’re focused on launching some incredibly exciting new technologies which we intend to expand and iterate on throughout 2025, while also expanding our ecosystem with tools like xyOS, and fostering some truly incredible partnerships.
I could not be more excited for what we have coming in the near future. Our community, especially XYO token holders, has been the backbone of our success, and we’re committed to empowering them with innovations that redefine how decentralized data is used globally. We’re building a future where data sovereignty and transparency are the norm. We are at the forefront of what we believe will become a titanic movement.
